Alex’s practice focuses on representing corporations and insurance companies in complex commercial, fraud, antitrust and RICO litigation. He has represented commercial real estate clients in commercial eviction actions; defended companies in employment discrimination litigations; counseled manufacturing clients with respect to Federal Trade Commission Guidelines; and advised businesses with respect to class-action liability under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
In anticipation of the legalization of recreational cannabis in New Jersey, Alex assisted with the development of Saiber LLC's new Cannabis Practice. Alex is the managing editor of the New Jersey Cannabis Counsel blog which provides commentary and information about the proposed legalization legislation.
Alex has also represented physicians, nurses and hospitals in professional negligence litigation, including conducting and defending depositions, litigating dispositive motions and counseling clients at the initiation of the litigation and prior to critical depositions. Alex appears and argues in both federal and state court in New Jersey and has extensive experience litigating before special discovery masters in complex litigation.
Professional History
Prior to joining Saiber in 2015, Alex was an associate at a boutique litigation firm defending complex medical malpractice lawsuits with potential multimillion dollar verdicts. Alex also served as a law clerk at a litigation firm in Chicago where he assisted in the defense of medical malpractice actions and §1983 deliberate indifference lawsuits against physicians working for correctional facilities. During law school, Alex served as a judicial extern to the Hon. Clare E. McWilliams in the Circuit Court of Cook County at the Daley Center in Chicago, IL.
Representative Matters
Argued the only successful motion to dismiss a party’s pleadings based on a discovery violations before a special discover master in a highly contentious insurance fraud litigation where approximately twenty similar motions were filed and denied by multiple parties;
Obtained sanctions and a finding of bad faith against an opposing attorney who was defending depositions in violation of R. 4:14-4;
Assisted in favorable settlement for landlord client in commercial eviction litigation;
Assisted in preparing successful motions to dismiss multiple multi-million dollar counterclaims brought against insurer;
Successfully argued for the appointment of a forensic computer expert in litigation where a party produced suspect electronically stored information;
Successfully argued a motion to dismiss in federal court in a breach of contract litigation between a sales representative and former employer;
Assisted in obtaining favorable settlement for landlord client against multinational telecommunications adversary in a breach of lease litigation;
Negotiated favorable settlement at federal court settlement hearing for a fraction of client’s liability in a commercial litigation;
Assisted in enforcing a non-solicitation clause in employment agreement and obtaining temporary injunctive relief against client’s former salesperson who attempted to interfere with client’s business relationships; and
Successfully dismissed emotional distress claims in multiple professional malpractice litigations.
