Alfred M. Wolin specializes in alternative dispute resolution, arbitrating and mediating some of the nation's most complex and contentious disputes.  His expertise is sought by private and public corporations involved in high-stakes business litigation seeking to reach a mutually acceptable resolution in a cooperative and informal manner, rather than through expensive and protracted proceedings.

Judge Wolin is frequently appointed by federal courts as the Special Master in class action and mass tort litigation, most recently serving as Special Master in Sullivan v. DB Investments, Inc., et al., D.N.J. Index No. 04-cv-02819 (SRC), a class action alleging violations of both federal and state antitrust, consumer protection and deceptive trade practices laws.   Notably, Judge Wolin's Opinion & Recommendation, written for lead class counsel in the matter of In re Tyco Securities Litigation in regard to counsel fees in a $3.2 billion settlement, was joined in by Hon. Abner Mikva (USCA ret) and subsequently adopted by the Court.  Judge Wolin was also appointed by the Hon. Faith Hochberg as the Special Discovery Master in Wachtel v. Guardian Life/McCoy v. Health Net and as the Special Master to allocate fees in Transweb, LLC v. 3M.  Judge Wolin also served as an expert witness in Daiichi Sankyo v. Bristol-Meyers Squibb, a patent dispute venued in Paris, France.

In addition to conducting mediations and arbitrations, Judge Wolin is the sole Trustee for ACandS, Artra, Burns & Roe, Congoleum, Leslie Controls 524g asbestos trusts and a co-Trustee of the ASARCO and T.H. Agriculture and Nutrition asbestos trusts.  Judge Wolin has participated in focus groups at the request of counsel preparing substantial matters for trial and has provided expertise in matters involving corporate waste investigations, patent and insurance litigation and corporate governance issues.

Judge Wolin has earned a national reputation in handling substantial and precedent setting cases, and has participated in workshops and seminars on a wide-range of legal subjects.

Professional History

Prior to joining Saiber, Judge Wolin ran a successful private practice in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and served for 25 years on the Bench of both state and federal courts, including the Union County District Court, the Superior Court of New Jersey and the United States District Court. Throughout his distinguished judicial career, Judge Wolin authored in excess of 300 published opinions and 2000 unpublished opinions that are available on WESTLAW™ and LEXIS™.
