On Thursday, June 17, Jennifer O’Connor and Vincent Cirilli will present a seminar on behalf of Affinity Federal Credit Union for SHRM members entitled “Conducting Internal Investigations: Best Practices for Ensuring Compliance and Minimizing Liability.”
This program will focus on how to identify when an investigation is warranted, how to identify who to best conduct the investigation, and how to conduct an effective investigation, highlighting best practices to follow, pitfalls to avoid and how to use the investigation as a defense in the event of litigation.
The program will also explore:
- How HR can work with legal counsel to best conduct workplace investigations
- How to maintain confidentiality and privilege during investigations
- Best practices for documenting employee interviews and collecting relevant evidence
- How to communicate findings internally and implement corrective actions without escalating risk
Objectives include:
- Identifying situations that require HR-led or supported investigations
- Developing effective interview techniques and documentation practices specific to HR functions
- Using investigation outcomes to update policies, enhance training, and strengthen workplace culture
- How to use an investigation as a defense in subsequent litigation
